On the 30th, and each subsequent Friday for the next 19 Fridays, I will release a batch of content (anywhere from 5 to 14 instructional modules) based on thematic fit and time load. These modules make up the heart of the course. The aim is to make the workload manageable, and have the content presented in a manner that feels like a single, themed unit.
You’ll then have Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to watch the new material. During these 4 days, we encourage you to watch the videos, note anything that requires additional clarification, post your comments and questions in the discussion sections, and engage with the other members of the course community, TAs, and … me (!)
Monday at 5 pm EST, my TAs will hand me a list of questions that were particularly interesting / difficult / or require some time to really explain. I will then spend Tuesday and Wednesday going through these questions and doing a video recording of as many as I can. Our media team will then race to get these exported, cleaned up, and prepare them for publication. Our aim is to get these to you along with the next batch of core instructional materials the following Friday, such that you get new materials AND the recordings of the Q&A.

Some students have expressed difficulty in getting an entire online PDC done in just 10-12 weeks, so I’ve doubled the time to allow full, stress-free absorption of the materials.
That includes blackboard-style videos, rich animations, weekly Q&A, and detailed PDFs; anywhere from 5 to 14 modules will be released weekly.
After watching the core modules, you’ll have a chance to ask me any follow-up questions; all sessions will be recorded and made available to you.
A sleek, modern interaction portal that far exceeds old-school discussion boards; the diversity and talents of our student body will fuel friendships and working relationships that last beyond the course.
You’re never alone: A team of fantastic teaching assistants monitor the discussions and jump in with answers throughout the week.
“In the early 1970s, it dawned on me that no one had ever applied design to agriculture. When I realized it, the hairs went up on the back of my neck. It was so strange. We’d had agriculture for 7,000 years, and we’d been losing for 7,000 years — everything was turning into desert. So I wondered, can we build systems that obey ecological principles?”
- Bill Mollison
Permaculture is that system, and the PDC course is the quickest way to master it, step-by-step. It is the absolute foundation for all that comes after it.
Did I already say the media team is amazing?
Two former university-level film lecturers, and some years spent at Australian National Television; no cheap camera tricks - your learning is front and center.
Mobile-optimized and responsive design
Clean access on almost any device, anywhere there is an internet connection. Begin watching on one device, pick up where you left off on another.
“Flipped classroom” is the future of education
Watch videos on your own time, then we do the Q&A together; by doing this, you’ll have a deeper understanding of permaculture than many who take a face-to-face course.
Because it’s 100% new, built from the ground-up.
And here’s just a bit of what this all means for you:
A lifetime of experience packed in
Hard-won insights from teaching 15,000+ students over 30 years, delivered to you just a mouse-click away.
You will learn how to “think like a permaculturist.”
Far more important than “facts” is a way of thinking, and we’ll get you there quickly, thoroughly, and effectively.
User-friendly technology optimized for learning
Numerous best practices for student-centered learning: Self-paced, multimodal (video, audio) learning, and project-based; students with diverse learning styles will thrive.
Larger, smarter, more diverse team
A dozen or so superstars with brawn, brains, and heart; hands-down the most capable team I’ve ever been a part of.
The video throughout the course is off the charts
Old-school chalkboard “classroom-style,” on-the-farm, and drone footage? We got ‘em -- and might add a bit of VR towards the end of the course.
Direct-to-Camera presentation style
This is the first time I’ve recorded an entire course in a studio with you, the at-home student, as my sole and only focus. The difference is palpable.
